After the regular tooth brushing we do at home, within a few minutes of eating or drinking anything, these are the best ways to stop cavities:
1.) Cavity fighting lollipops-
1 lollipop in the morning and 1 in the evening for 10 days helps kill all the cavity forming bacteria in your mouth. Use Dr. John’s Herbal lollipops 2-4 times a year for extremely good protection.
2.) Dentiva lozenges-
Dissolve 1 lozenge slowly in the mouth and the essential oils in it help dissolve the plaque on your teeth, kill gum disease bacteria, and alkalinize your mouth.
3.) MI paste-
This water based, sugar-free crème rebuilds your teeth, reversing cavities, reducing sensitive teeth and also alkalinizes your mouth acids. Dab with a finger unto the front of your teeth and it works for hours remineralizing your teeth.
4.) Xylitol products-
There are many products out now that contain the Xylitol ingredient. The toothpastes, gums, mints, mouthwashes, and candies all help wash away cavity bugs and stops them from making acids that eat teeth away. Use up to 6 grams/day of these products for added protection.
5.) Baking soda-
To alkalinize the whole mouth and add buffering action to your mouth adding some baking soda or brushing with pure baking soda is very powerful.
6.) Arginine-
Increasing arginine in your diet will help reduce cavities. Arginine is found in spinach, soy, seafood, nuts, and seeds.
We live in a great time, when we have lots of ways to fight off cavity bugs and rebuild our teeth. Our practice now has a simple saliva test for cavity bugs available in the office. If you get a lot of cavities or just want to know if these bugs are in your mouth, ask for the Cavity Bug test kit. It takes about 1 hour and costs $60.00.

Hi – My son just turned two and I’m wondering what to use for oral care other than brushing with water (even that is a challenge and it seems painful for him even with a soft brush). I like the idea of the lollipops but I’m not sure about the food dye, “natural” flavoring, and artificial sweetener it contains. The tooth and gum paste website says their product is not appropriate for kids under 6. Any suggestions?
P.S. – I heard your radio show with Dr. Lo, very informative.
Dear Emily,
Thanks for the email question.
For 2 year old, I would recommend letting him brush his teeth himself but always brushing his teeth yourself afterwards. The lollipops are not recommended for a child this young but start them as soon as he can be trusted and supervised with the lollipop. At 2 years old I recommend the Young Living brand kids toothpaste with essential oils or the Closys brand tooth paste. We have both of them at the office. The Dental Herb company’s tooth paste has herbs and these have never been tested on small kids.
You could use xylitol candies, gum and mints also when he is older.
I used to brush my son’s teeth 2 times a year with colloidal silver in water (it has no smell or taste).
The more arginine foods you get in his diet the less cavities he will have.
I also had my son’s teeth cleaned every 3 months at the dentist office.
If you can an organic, raw food diet is the best for his health, esp. the raw dairy products.
Hope this helps.

Hi Dr. Lawrence,
Just went to a biological dentist and my 8-year daughter has 6 cavities. Four are on her baby teeth and two are on permanent ones. He wants to drill and fill them. I just ordered Dr. John’s lollipops, Dentiva and the Dental Herb Co. toothpaste/oral rinse. Do you think there’s any chance they can heal or should I have the dentist drill them?
Thanks so much for all your information!

Hi Karen,
Sorry to hear your daughter has a few cavities.
If the cavities are only half way into the teeth, then they may be able to be reversed. The dentist would need X-rays to see how far the cavities have progressed.
Continue the lollipops and effective toothpaste to avoid any further cavities.
There is a more intense cavity management protocol for adults that utilizes an iodine rinse and a simple cavity bug test if you are interested.
Blessings to you and your daughter.

I’m a 58 year old man. Just heard your podcast with Dr.Lo. I ordered the Dentiva. How many times a day should I use that.
I also ordered the Herbal toothpaste, gum irrigant and rinse. Can you tell me in what order I should use these?
Thanks,
Bart
Hi Bart,
Thanks for the question.
The Dentiva lozenge is used whenever you can’t brush or water pik. I recommend using it after lunch because most people do not brush after lunch, at work or driving on the road. Therefore once a day is the usual dose. It is great for trips and travelers because it is so easy to use and convenient to carry around.
The Dental Herb company products are currently the most effective dental products in the world and have been for years. I use the toothpaste immediately after breakfast and dinner. I use another toothpaste after lunch, called Closys. The mouthrinse can be used any time you want a clean mouth feeling. The gum irrigant is used in the water pik systems, usually once a day. I recommend 1/3rd capful of the irrigant in the water reservoir of the water pik system and fill the remaining reservoir with warm water.
The order is not as important as the use of the three products daily. I floss, brush and then rinse myself.
Hope this helps give you so help in taking care of your dental health.

Thanks for such great info
I’ve been struggling for a bit now with my daughter- now four- found quite a few cavities all at once at age two, and I struggling with hormones ended up with gum issues !!!
We do eat healthy
I use xytiol products with her and me about 3-5 times a day, I brush with shine and herbal baking sodas hydroxyapatite, and essential oils and use silver but they are still there. I just stated oral probiotics. I was thinking of trying iodine but don’t know exactly how to use
She seems to have alkaline mouth due to ph testing and I support her org healthy oils and minerals…
Any other thoughts
We are in San Diego once a year maybe we could come in
Thanks
Hi Suzanne,
Sorry to hear your young girl has cavities.
First thing to do is take care of your self. All our first cavity bugs come from our mother. So she got these bugs probably from you.
A quick summary of the ways to fight cavities would be: Loloz lollipops (for cavity prone kids = 4 times a year), effective toothpaste (If she is still getting cavities your tooth paste is not working, Closys without fluoride would be where I would start), and no in between the meals snacks (except maybe nuts, seeds, hard cheeses, raw vegetables).
At 35% xylitol, a xylitol tooth paste works great. Shoot for a total from all sources of 5-6 grams/day. I do not use iodine rinse except as a last resort. It kills all the bugs in the mouth, both good and bad. Usually it can be flavored with mint or tutti fruity flavors. Then rinse for 2 minutes and spit out. This is done rarely, like every ten years or so. It is very drastic. It is done at the dental office after a cleaning, then MI paste, loloz and dentiva lozenges are used to control which bugs start to populate the mouth again. If you email me a request for these protocols I can send them to you and you could give them to your dentist.
Oral Probiotics are some what limited because there are about 660 good bugs and these products have only a couple. Raw meats and dairy products, fermented foods are better.
Colloidal silver is effective at killing the bad bugs and leaving the good bugs alone.
Hope this helps you to start to understand how to help you and your daughter.

Thanks for responding! I really appreciate your thoughts and time!
I would love some of those protocols! Also how does the loloz pops worked compared to the dr johns xylitol? And four times a yr? Does that mean four times a yr for the 10 day protocol? The “natural flavors”. Make me uncomfortable… I use shine instead of mi paste and those ingredients seem questionable…
And the other xylitol toothpaste seem to all have glycerin which is believed to not allow the teeth to remineralize or at least allow food to stick and not allow the tounge to effectively wipe teeth
Thanks
I’ll check into other recommendations
Also the cavity bug test, would that be beneficial to us both and can that be ordered or only done at your office?
Thanks
Blessings
Suzanne
